NOARK launches new products for electromobility infrastructure

One of the major obstacles to plug-in electric vehicle acceptance is the inadequate network and inadequate accessibility of public charging stations. Virtually every electric vehicle owner has to improvise more or less often when charging his or her vehicle. One of the ideal solutions is to install the charger in your own garage.
A dedicated EV charger brings several key benefits:

  • installation is usually relatively inexpensive
  • the safety risks of installing and using a home EV charger are very low
  • EV charging is available at any time
  • you can set the charging current and thus the charging time
  • helps to consume available electric power in the most cost-effective and energy-efficient way

NOARK, the global supplier of low-voltage electrical components, now offers a versatile and affordable wall-mounted range of Ex9EV chargers suitable for all plug-in electric vehicles. It can be connected to a conventional single-phase power supply as well as a three-phase power supply. (The three-phase solution significantly reduces the charging time.) Chargers also differ in the range of the charging current from 10 A to 32 A. Also included is a 5-meter long connection cable with one of the two most common plugs - Type 1 (now a slowly disappearing standard “yazaki”) or the increasingly dominant Type 2 (known as “mennekes”).

The batteries in electric vehicles work on the DC principle; when they are charged, leakage of DC residual currents might occur. To avoid such a situation, a sensitive Type B (RCCB) residual current circuit breaker is highly recommended for all types of EV charging stations. While most manufacturers address this requirement by the additional mounting of the RCCB device, the NOARK Ex9EV has its own Type B circuit breaker built into the charger, thus maximizing the safety and reliability of its operation.

In addition to the new dedicated chargers, NOARK also offers a new line of six dedicated charging cables Ex9EVC. It was designed to charge electric cars from classic single-phase and three-phase (230V / 400V) sockets. All cables are equipped with Type B RCCB as standard, all make monitoring the temperature of switching elements and plugs possible, as well as monitoring overvoltage and undervoltage.

All these cables also allow the charging current to be set between 8 A and 32 A. Depending on the electric vehicle type, they are equipped with Type 1 or Type 2 car connectors and thus are suitable for all EVs sold on the world market.

The new products, which also belong to the EV chargers and charging cable family, are stand-alone B type Ex9LB63 residual current circuit breakers. These RCCBs are suitable for various domestic as well as industrial applications, where frequency inverters, PV plant, EV chargers and similar elements are used. B type provides a sensitivity to residual AC, pulsating and smooth DC current, together with high frequencies up to 1 kHz.

An important advantage of Ex9LB63 is that it is based on electronic technology that allows more accurate measuring of residual current and, as a consequence, reduction of unwanted tripping. These devices also do not suffer from magnetization of the tripping unit.

Thus, there is no mandatory testing period, but they must be tested regularly.

On this testing period, local law or regulations may apply. It is recommended to test it every 6 months in a fair environment and every month in heavy condition.
